Reader’s Question:

Is there a specific amount that is being charged to someone for having an SR-22 or does it vary by insurance carrier?

Mike

Austin, TX

Typically insurance providers are allowed to charge a nominal fee for filing the financial responsibility form (certificate) to the state. State laws differ in this law but the SR-22 certificate filing fee is typically only $15 to $25.

So it would depend upon your laws in your state and if they have set a specific amount that insurance companies can charge for filing the SR22 certificate or if they say that an insurance company can charge a fee up to a certain amount. So say that a state law lets an insurance company charge up to $25 for the SR-22 certificate filing fee. Then one insurance company may charge $15 while another insurance company charges the $25 top limit amount.

How Do I Get Drivers License Back After SR22 Certificate

Reader’s Question:

What do I have to do to get my license back after I have been issued an SR22 certificate?

Mary

Thank you for asking Mary.

To get back your driver’s license it will depend on what your infraction was and the state laws or regulations of the state in which your driver’s license was suspended. If you have a suspended license because of unpaid tickets (in or out of state) then it might be just as simple as paying the fines and fees for these offenses and then request your license back.

If instead your license was taken away because of DUI, state laws might require you to take an alcohol or drug class plus pay the fines and get an SR-22 or the financial responsibility certificate. If you have too many points on your license and it was revoked or suspended, you may check if taking a driving class might permit you to get your license reinstated.

To get more information on how to get your driver’s license back you may contact the Department of Motor Vehicles, in your state.

Goodluck!
