New Hampshire SR22 Certificate
Reader’s Question:
I want to know the exact coverage of sr22 in NH and do I need to have an SR-22 Certificate?
Mike
Thank you for asking Mike.
The New Hampshire Department of Safety states that an SR-22 is a certificate of “proof of liability insurance” which must be submitted by an insurance carrier licensed to do business in New Hampshire.
The NH Division of Motor Vehicles states that the SR-22 is required for
* 3 years from the date of conviction/crash or from the date imposed by a hearings examiner.
* If convicted of a Driving While Intoxicated Second Offense, 5 years from the date of conviction.
* If convicted of a major offense in the time frame required to carry an SR-22 insurance certificate, the requirement will be extended for 3 years from the date of the major conviction.
The New Hampshire SR-22 is a certificate of proof of liability insurance and the minimum limits available for liability coverage are 25/50/25. You must have at least these minimum coverages in order to file the SR22. These limits stand for $25,000 of Bodily Injury Liability coverage per injured person up to a total of $50,000 per accident, and Property Damage Liability coverage with a limit of $25,000.

Thank you for asking Florence.
The Idaho Department of Insurance, Idaho Code 49-117 (18) is the law containing auto insurance requirements for Idaho.
The Idaho’s minimum required car insurance limits are 25/50/15. This stands for Bodily Injury Liability coverage of $25,000 per injured person up to a total of $50,000 per accident. The Property Damage Liability coverage is with a minimum limit of $15,000.

VT sr22 certificate
Reader’s Question:
I just want to know how long do I have to carry an sr22. Someone told me that its for 3 years? is this correct? If I don’t drive for 3 years, will I still be needing this sr22? I live in VT.
Renee
Thank you for asking Renee.
According to the Vermont State statues an individuals who are required to file Financial Responsibility Insurance with the VT Department of Motor Vehicles must carry this car insurance for a minimum of 3 years. If there is a lapse or cancelled this type of car insurance coverage the person is issued a license suspension which would not be reinstated until valid coverage is active on file again.
Vermont’s Department of Motor Vehicles has very specific requirements on the filing of Financial Responsibility Insurance. This will accept only certain documents (i.e. an SR-22 certificate from an insurance provider and NOT from an insurance agent) that are completed in compliance with these strict requirements.
According to the wording of the Vermont Statues on this you would need the SR-22 certificate for 3 years once your drivers license has been reinstated (not from when you became eligible). You may contact the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles to verify this information.

Reader’s Question:
What do I do to reinstate my drivers license due to driving without insurance in TX after an SR22 certificate?
Richard
Thank you for asking Richard.
You may have your license suspended for a second or subsequent ticket for no liability insurance in the state of Texas. If a an individual is convicted of a second offense for having no insurance, the individual is subject to suspension of license. This is according to the Texas Transportation Code 601.231, and 37 Texas Administrative Code 25.19.
If you want to reinstate your license after a suspension or revocation due to not having liability insurance there is a reinstatement fee due prior to the renewal/issuance of a driver’s license. In addition to that you must also acquire a proof of insurance (form SR-22) from an insurance provider license to do business in TX and submit it to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). The SR-22 in TX is required for two years from date of the infraction or conviction.
To get more information on what fees you will need to pay for you to be able to get your license out of its suspension or revocation and have it reinstated you may contact the Texas DPS.

Reader’s Question:
I have not reinstated my license yet since after 4 years of DUI conviction. Do I need an sr22 Certificate? I live in TN.
Chris
Thank you for asking Chris.
A single DUI conviction in Tennessee can cost an person quite a bit after all the fines and fees have been paid. The potential costs of a TN DUI conviction may include:
* Fines
* Court Costs
* Bail
* Towing and storage fees
* Attorney fees
* Alcohol education program enrollment
* Driver license reinstatement fees
* Ignition interlock program costs
* Higher insurance premiums and SR-22 filing
I you want to get your license reinstated after a DUI conviction, one of the requirements is to provide proof of a SR-22 filing by your insurance provider. Waiting 4 years to reinstate your drivers license seems to negate the need for the SR-22 form to be filed. You can verify with the TN Department of Safety to make sure about your specific situation.

Reader’s Question:
What do I have to do to get my license back? Do I need to buy an SR-22 Certificate or something?
Mary
Thank you for asking Mary.
To get back your driver’s license it will depend on what your infraction was and the state laws or regulations of the state in which your driver’s license was suspended. If you have a suspended license because of unpaid tickets (in or out of state) then it might be just as simple as paying the fines and fees for these offenses and then request your license back.
If instead your license was taken away because of DUI, state laws might require you to take an alcohol or drug class plus pay the fines and get an SR-22 Certificate or the financial responsibility certificate. If you have too many points on your license and it was revoked or suspended, you may check if taking a driving class might permit you to get your license reinstated.
To get more information on how to get your driver’s license back you may contact the Department of Motor Vehicles, in your state.
